 Sports is a huge part in German culture and society. Around 23 million people in Germany play a sport in one of the more than 991 000 sports clubs. 26 000 of those clubs is the German Football(soccer) Association, it is the largest group of sport clubs. |

Olympics If you count the all-time German medals in the olympics through 2006 they rank 5th in the world. Germany has hosted the summer olympics twice. One was 1936, Berlin and the other one was 1972, Munich. During the 2006 winter olympics in Turin, Germany claimed the most gold medals and total number of medals. |
